What changed in the 2025 American Heart Association guidelines and how to transition your courses, materials, and sessions in Hovn.

Updated this week

2025 AHA Curriculum Update

This page explains how the 2025 American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines are supported in Hovn, what’s live today, and how to transition from 2020 to 2025 courses without breaking records or certifications.

Current Status

  • 2025 AHA courses and certifications are live in Hovn.

  • All 2020 courses and materials have been renamed to include “2020 Guidelines.”

  • New 2025 versions are published and ready to use.

Before publishing new sessions, review the guardrails below to avoid data issues.

Guardrails (Important)

Follow these rules to keep records clean and compliant:

  • Do not rename 2020 courses.
They are already linked to AHA data.

  • If you use custom course titles, add “2020” manually where needed.

  • No cross-moving students.
You can’t move learners from 2020 sessions into 2025 sessions.

  • If a student already paid:
Add them to the new 2025 session as a manual booking, mark the order Paid, then cancel their booking in the 2020 session.

  • Pilot first.
Run 1–2 trial sessions for each new 2025 course before scaling.

  • Archive old courses once you’re fully transitioned and no longer plan to offer 2020 guidelines.

How to Transition to 2025 Courses

Follow this sequence to move cleanly to the new guidelines.

1) Prepare your materials

Create or update Materials so they’re ready to attach to 2025 courses.
See: Adding a Material

2) Create a 2025 course offering

Set up a new course using the 2025 curriculum.
See: Create a Course Offering

3) Schedule sessions

Create new Sessions tied to the 2025 course.
See: Create a Session

4) Update your website links

Point all booking links to the new 2025 course and session pages.
See: Website Integration

5) (Optional) Archive old courses

Once fully transitioned, archive 2020 courses to stop new registrations.

6) (Optional) Remove empty sessions

Delete them manually, or email [email protected] with booking page links to request bulk deletion.

Overview of What Changed

2025 AHA Courses & Certifications Update

This guide explains how AHA courses and certifications are changing in Hovn as we transition from 2020 Guidelines to 2025 Guidelines.

What’s changing

1) Existing courses → now labeled “2020 Guidelines”

All current AHA courses were renamed to clearly show they follow the 2020 Guidelines.

Examples

  • ACLS Provider → 2020 ACLS Provider

  • BLS Provider → 2020 BLS Provider

  • PALS Provider → 2020 PALS Provider

  • Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED → 2020 Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED

Important

  • These courses keep their same URLs and behavior.

  • They remain valid until links switch to 2025 by default on March 1, 2026.

2) New 2025 courses added

All AHA 2025 course templates are now available in Hovn.
They stay in draft until materials are attached.

Examples of new 2025 courses

  • ACLS Provider Course (2025)

  • HeartCode® ACLS Online (2025)

  • BLS Provider Course (2025)

  • Heartsaver® CPR AED (2025)

  • PALS Provider Course (2025)

  • Heartsaver® First Aid (2025)

These courses use new 2025 slugs and are mapped to the updated curriculum.

Certification updates

3) Existing certifications → now labeled “2020 Guidelines”

All current AHA certifications were renamed to match the 2020 curriculum.

Examples

  • ACLS Provider → 2020 ACLS Provider (eCard ID: 20-3000)

  • BLS Provider → 2020 BLS Provider (eCard ID: 20-3001)

  • Heartsaver CPR AED → 2020 Heartsaver CPR AED (eCard ID: 20-3004)

These continue to issue exactly as before — only the name has changed.

4) New 2025 certifications added

New certifications are now mapped to the 2025 Guidelines with new 25-series eCard IDs.

Examples

  • ACLS Provider (2025) → eCard ID: 25-3000

  • BLS Provider (2025) → eCard ID: 25-3001

  • Heartsaver CPR AED (2025) → eCard ID: 25-3004

  • PALS Provider (2025) → eCard ID: 25-3006

These are used only with the new 2025 course versions.

What this means for you

If you’re still teaching 2020 courses

Nothing changes.
Your courses, sessions, and certifications continue to work as usual — just with clearer “2020 Guidelines” labeling.

If you’re moving to 2025 courses

You’ll:

  1. Attach the new 2025 materials

  2. Create a 2025 course offering

  3. Schedule sessions under the 2025 version

  4. Issue certifications using the new 25-series eCard IDs
