What visitors and students see when a coupon link is used

How coupon links and codes appear on the training site, including banners, discounted prices, catalog limits, and checkout behavior.

Overview

This article explains what students and clients see on your discovery page when they use a coupon URL or code—so admins can answer questions without guessing.

Setup steps are in Price Lists and Coupons; catalog limiting is in Limit the catalog when a coupon is applied.

Available for: Service Provider Admins

Coupon link format

Links follow the same pattern as How to Share Coupons in the main article:

Example: ?coupon=ACME100

First visit with a link

Coupon Available dialog when opening a coupon URL

Step

What the visitor sees

Opens the link

Coupon Available — the code was detected

Apply Coupon

Coupon is active; a banner appears under the site header

No thanks

Declines this coupon

After they apply (or if they already confirmed the code in this browser session), a banner shows:

  • Coupon applied · [CODE]

  • Remove coupon — clears the coupon and shows the full catalog again

  • If Restrict Discovery Catalog is on: Showing courses this coupon applies to…

The coupon stays active as they browse courses and sessions until they remove it, checkout, or it expires.

Catalog behavior

Admin setting

What visitors see

Restrict Discovery Catalog — On

Course listings and popular courses only include courses on that coupon’s price list

Restrict Discovery Catalog — Off

Full published catalog; discounted prices appear where the price list applies

If restrict is on but nothing on the list matches the page they are viewing:

  • Coupon doesn't apply here

  • Options to view covered courses or Remove coupon, view all courses

Prices on course and session pages

Course catalog with coupon-adjusted prices and strikethrough retail

When the coupon lowers the price, visitors typically see:

  • The amount they pay with the coupon (course plus required bundled materials in the total)

  • A strikethrough on the regular price when the coupon reduces it

Hovering the price on a course or session card may show a breakdown (course line, material lines) with strikethrough on discounted lines.

Sessions with a custom price: If you set Use Custom Price on a session in admin, that amount is the regular price on the training site. The coupon adjusts from that base—the visitor may see the custom price struck through when the coupon applies.

Checkout: Students can still enter the coupon code manually during checkout (Option 2 in the main article) if they did not use the link.

Admin support quick answers

Visitor says…

What to check

“I only see a few courses”

Restrict Discovery Catalog is on; Products on the price list

“I see everything but no discount”

Course on the price list; coupon Active (dates); code spelling — see Troubleshooting in the main article

“The session price looks wrong”

Use Custom Price on that session; bundled materials on the price list

“It asked me to apply the coupon again”

Normal for a new ?coupon= link; No thanks keeps a previous coupon if there was one applied

“We need to bill our client”

Orders tab on the price list; main article Scenario 1 and Scenario 4

Troubleshooting
